Angelina Filimonov
Guide to the Shadow World

Angelina Filimonov (b. 2000, Novosibirsk, Russia) is a visual artist whose work explores psychological and spiritual thresholds of the human condition. She works primarily in drawing, using the ballpoint pen and digital mixed media as her principal tools. Her color works are executed in oil pastel, a medium she approaches as painting, building dense layers and subtle transitions that lend the images luminous physical presence.
Filimonov approaches human subjectivity as a site of sacrifice, dissolution, and transgression. The experience of self is not only spiritual isolation, but also revelation and engagement with the world. What interests the artist most is the extremity of the experience of inhabiting the self — of being human. Each work thus stages both conflict and metamorphosis, balancing vulnerability with transcendence.
Educated in the history of philosophy, Filimonov brings a reflective and symbolic depth to her visual language. Her works are held in private collections and have been used as cover art for underground music releases, where her imagery extends into the realms of sound and ritual aesthetics. She currently lives and works in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
